How she thinks it happened

It was a Saturday morning and my roommate, Susan, and I had plans to go get a mani/pedi and eat lunch. Johnny had told me he had to work that day, but would see me later for my birthday dinner we had planned with my friends (my birthday was the following Monday). So, off Susan and I went to Hollywood Nails. Afterwards, we decided to go eat at Chuy’s. At lunch, I told Susan I really needed to run by the mall and get some shoes for that night. I wasn’t sure what I was going to wear with my dress. Susan said okay but that we needed to hurry (this is when I start to get suspicious). We arrived at Dillard’s and Susan tells me I have 15 minutes to spend inside and then we had to go home.

Once we got home I found balloons and a clue. The clue was set up in a crossword puzzle where I had to complete certain words. There was also one that was highlighted which was where I was supposed to go next to get the next clue. Susan and I immediately started getting dressed. Another friend of mine, Shellie came over and met us to go on my scavenger hunt.

The first place we went was Terilli’s, my favorite Italian restaurant in Dallas. Johnny had ordered my favorite dessert (Xango Cheescake, yum!) and Susan, Shellie, and I enjoyed it very much.

The next set of clues led us to the French Room at the Hotel Adolphus, where Johnny and I ate for our 6-month anniversary. There the front desk had more clues for us, which took us to the Dragonfly at the Hotel ZaZa. Johnny and I had also been to the Dragonfly for our 6-month anniversary for pre-dinner drinks. There, Johnny had arranged for us to have one of my favorite drinks, the espresso martini.

From there the next clue sent us to The Mansion at Turtle Creek. Johnny was waiting for me on the patio with beautiful flowers. He asked me to marry him and gave me the most gorgeous ring. We went inside and had the best dinner.

I thought the story would end there however Johnny had other plans. Johnny had told me that Carrie Ford wanted us to stop by on the way home to see the ring. I was excited to show her, so happily agreed. Little did I know that Johnny had a huge engagement party planned! We got to Carrie’s and I went upstairs…When I opened the door to the living room there were so many people! It took a second (okay maybe longer than that) for it all to register! Everyone was there to celebrate with us. I couldn’t have been happier. Johnny made the night so special and surprised me twice!

How it really went down

I had been planning this day for about one month. It took me a full week to come up with the crossword puzzle to be in each of the clues! When I finally finished the clues, they were perfect. The whole idea was to try and make her think the scavenger hunt was for her birthday, which was two days later. There were 2 main events. The scavenger hunt was the first event which ended in the proposal. The surprise engagement party was the second event.

The whole thing started the night before when I told Corey that I had to work on Saturday. This was really a phib-let so I could get everything set up for the scavenger hunt. Corey and Susan took off for the afternoon after I left for "work." I was really heading over to Ricky's place to kill some time.

Ricky and I enjoyed a nice bbq lunch, and then went to pick up the balloons to leave in the apartment. We made it back to the apartment, and I parted with Ricky. Matt, Susan's boyfriend, was waiting there. I had to change into my nice clothes, plant the 1st clue and get out of the apartment before Corey got back. It was a tight schedule, but we pulled it off.

Matt and I headed out to all the locations to plant the clues, and also pick up the flower bouquet I had ordered. At each location, I explained what was going on and everyone was so excited to help me out. It was alot easier than I thought, but I was still worried someone would lose the clue or something. It all worked out though. :)

We made it to the Mansion at Turtle Creek with plenty of time to spare. We had to kill about an hour waiting for the girls to get there, but it gave us time to plan a location for Corey to meet us. Then, the time had come. I saw Corey walk into the restaurant and the host brought her out to the private patio where I was sitting. Matt was hiding to the side getting ready to be the camera for the event. Corey made it outside, I wished her a happy birthday, then pulled out the ring and got down on one knee. She barely let me kneel down before she pulled me back up to say yes! Then we enjoyed our dinner, but the night wasn't over yet!

I invited our parents and all of our friends to come and join the celebration. Corey had no clue that the engagement party awaited. I was surprised everyone had been able to keep the secret for two weeks. Right before we reached Carrie's house, I started seeing all of our friend's cars. Good thing Corey was completely clueless and just staring at the ring or the surprise would have been ruined! :) We walked in and Corey let out the loudest scream because she was completely surprised. It was perfect and I am glad that everything came together the way it did! Thanks to all our friends for making the party a success and to Carrie and Shannon for hosting the party at their house!
